Getting Ready
Met the rest of CSG2MY folks at U Hotel lobby to ride to the starting point together. Most of them took a chartered coach yesterday, arriving today at noon. Some flew with their bicycles during the past 2 days.

In our group, there were only a handful of foldies, mostly Bromptons. I hope we won’t be the last to finish the ride.
52km Ride Across Penang 2nd Bridge and Back

Didn’t take too many photos during the ride. Our group wanted to be identifiable, so we were each given some luminous sticks, but they were hard to fix onto our helmets, and the lights only lasted about and hour or so.
We started somewhere in the middle of the pack. The entire bridge was closed to traffic, so we had 2 lanes to cycle. Jake kept a consistient low 20s kmh pace, and there were 2 uphill sections.
At one of the downhill sections, Jake got boxed in by some riders, and he almost lost control of his bicycle. I was just behind him, and was worried if he was going to crash…
But Jake had excellent bike control, so although he wobbled for about 10 meters, he managed to not fall but finally come to a stop upright!

Jake’s chain had fallen off the gears. It got caught behind the derailleurs and it took him and Jack a good half an hour to fix.
From the middle of the pack, we are now looking at the tail end of the pack as almost everyone had cycle past us.

Meanwhile, a safety marshall came by, and informed us that if we cannot fix our bicycle, they will load our bicycles onto a lorry and we will take the bus back to the starting point.
Took both of us about 35 minutes, but we managed to fix the chain and continued cycling towards the mainland side of the bridge. This is the u-turn halfway point. We passed by a few slow riders and some very young riders, but we were worried if we cannot make the cut off time, and will be rounded up by the safety marshalls to board the bus.

Upon reaching the halfway mark tents, we saw many cyclists. There were drinks and snacks, and many were taking photos and just milling around. We quickly ate some bananas, and continued cycling back toward Penang Island on the return leg of the bridge.

We were almost the last of CSG2MY group to finish the ride due to the technical issue. Other than having to stop for repairs, Jake and Jack enjoyed riding on the bridge. We were rolling around 21kmh on the bridge, which is slightly faster than our regular Lim Chu Kang pace.
