2026 Penang International 2nd Bridge Solidarity Fun Ride 2026, Day 2 part 1

Oh no – Thunderstorm!

I was woken up by thunder and lightning. Heavy rain at 3am

Heavy rain at 3am

Our Penang Bridge ride starts at 9pm tonight and will end maybe by 2am. If it will rain again like it is raining now, we will be soaked.

Short Ride into USM Campus for Breakfast

Saw on google maps there is a briyani restaurant nearby, within the campus of USM. We unpacked our bicycles to do a short ride to breakfast just to make sure the bicycles are ok before tonight’s 52km ride.

Jake’s bicycle could not latch when unfolded. The rear triangle was bent during the journey. We had to wrestle the rear rack by stepping on it to bend it back.

Test ride behind U Hotel

We did a short test ride at the hotel car park before going on the road towards USM for breakfast.

Nasir Kandar Subaidah (USM)

We had roti canai. After breakfast, we rode around USM campus to find an alternate route back to U Hotel. We rode on the road inside campus. When we turn onto the main road outside, we rode on the pavement.

The pavement became narrower and narrower, until it was so narrow, that when a lamp post was in the way, we had only a 10cm pavement to cross, with railing on the right, and a drain to the left!

Queensbay Mall

We went Queensbay Mall in the afternoon to kill time. It is a quite a big mall and we just did some window shopping.

Jake found a nice polo tee
Jack found a CNY shirt
7Days, a favourite shop of Jake and Paige
Is this too warm for SG weather?

We couldn’t decide what to eat for dinner, and it was also too early anyway. We went back to U hotel, and maybe walk to the nearby Secret Recipe for dinner before tonight’s 52km bicycle ride.

Pasar Malam Opposite U Hotel

As we got back to U Hotel, we saw there were many food stalls opposite the street. Turns out this is one of the biggest pasar malam in this area, which only happens every Saturday.
